IPv6 text representations

The same IPv6 address can be written many ways: leading zeros are optional and the longest run of zero groups can be replaced by :: once. RFC 5952 defines the canonical form: lowercase, no leading zeros, and :: compressing the longest, leftmost zero run. The expanded form is useful for sorting, database storage, and tools that require fixed-width addresses.
