Our ASN registration service caters to both businesses and individuals residing in the RIPE service region, namely in Europe. You can check if your organization country is part of the RIPE service area using the next link :

Individuals must be at least 18 years old (or meet the jurisdictional age requirement) to enter into the sponsorship agreement.

Both are supported. We register ASNs for companies and other legal entities as well as for individuals (natural persons), provided you reside in the RIPE service region or have a network presence in that region.

The process is the same in both cases; only the required documents differ. Companies provide a recent registration extract or a Certificate of Good Standing, while individuals provide a recent proof of address. See the next question for details.

Once your request is paid, your dashboard lists what to provide, within 10 days:

• For a company, an extract from the company register or a Certificate of Good Standing, issued within the last 3 months.
• For an individual, a utility bill or a bank statement in their name, issued within the last 3 months.
• If the holder or the network is outside the RIPE NCC service region, a recent invoice or contract from a data centre or a transit provider located in the region.

The person who signs the agreement verifies their identity online with a passport or a national identity card and a selfie. A copy of the ID and the selfie is kept, encrypted, with the documents of your request, as the RIPE NCC requires. The sponsorship agreement, in line with RIPE policies, is then signed online.

If your company documents are not in English, RIPE might ask for a certified translation. This requirement is generally waived for businesses established within the EU.

The request asks for what RIPE NCC needs to assign an ASN:

• A few sentences on how the ASN will be used and where the network runs.
• At least two networks it will peer with: their name, AS number and a contact email.
• The holder's details, or the ORG-ID of its organisation if it already has one in the RIPE Database. An existing organisation must allow us to register resources to it with the line mnt-ref: ELAUNIRA-MNT.
• Who signs the agreement, and their phone number.

Your answers are saved as you go, so you can stop and come back later.

If RIPE NCC refuses the request, or we cannot accept it after the review, you are refunded except for the part that covers the verification. If we cannot deliver for a reason of our own, you are refunded in full. If the documents are not provided within 10 days, the request is closed without a refund.

If you order as an individual, you can withdraw within 14 days of the payment: you are refunded except for the part that covers the verification, until the ASN is delivered. The details are in our Terms of Use.

RIPE NCC historically supported both 16-bit and 32-bit ASNs, but as of 1 January 2010, it ceased distinguishing between them and now issues only 32-bit ASNs from a unified pool. Requests for 16-bit ASNs are no longer granted by RIPE NCC.

The only practical way to obtain a 16-bit ASN today is via the secondary market, which is typically expensive (several thousand dollars) and involves a long, administrative, and often tedious transfer process. You should also expect the additional RIPE transfer policy requirements (e.g., minimum holding periods) to apply to any 16-bit ASN being transferred.

Yes, once the ASN is assigned to your organization, you are free to edit your RIPE WHOIS entry directly. We are always available to offer support if needed.

Yes, there are a few key requirements.

Your network must demonstrate the need for an ASN by operating in a multi-homed environment, that is, maintaining at least two distinct BGP-capable connections.

In addition, you are expected to hold a minimum IP address allocation: either a /24 block of IPv4 addresses or a /48 block of IPv6 addresses. These requirements ensure your organization can effectively manage and route internet traffic.

If you don't currently have sufficient IP space, a free IPv6 PA prefix is included with the ASN: a /48, or a /44 if your network needs it.
